Female politicians express support and solidarity with Tamar Mearakishvili, a civil activist detained in occupied Tskhinvali.
The statement notes that the legitimate government would have done everything to release Tamar Mearakishvili from illegal detention, including appealing to the Western co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions, as well as using other international mechanisms, although the public is still unaware of what the Georgian Dream’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the State Security Service are doing to this end.
The politicians call on the Georgian government to disseminate public information about her health condition and use all international mechanisms to monitor her.
“We, female politicians, express our support and solidarity with Tamar Mearakishvili, a human rights activist illegally detained in occupied Tskhinvali on absurd charges and sent her to two months of pretrial detention.
Yesterday it became known that the illegally detained civil activist has gone on a hunger strike as a sign of protest.
Tamari has been defending human rights in occupied Tskhinvali for years and is a symbol of the Georgian female activist. Her journalistic work, civil activism and work for human rights are universally recognized.
We are concerned about her health condition after she decided to resort to an extreme form of protest, which is expressed in a hunger strike. It is known that she refuses not only food, but also water and medicines.
The legitimate government would have done everything possible to release Tamar Mearakishvili from illegal detention. The government should, among other things, appeal to the Western co-chairs of the Geneva international discussions, as well as use other international mechanisms. However, the public is still unaware of what the Georgian Dream’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the State Security Service are doing to achieve this. Their inaction is more noticeable than their work. We call on them to disseminate public information about her health status and use all international mechanisms to monitor her.
