Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze sent to pre-trial detention in absentia

Former Prosecutor General Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze, accused of organizing the premeditated murder of Levan Jangveladze on his orders and for his own gain, has been sent to pre-trial detention.

The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Eka Barbakadze.

The accused former Prosecutor General did not attend the court hearing, as he is in Russia.

According to Prosecutor Levan Vepkhvadze, the accused left Georgia in June 2025. According to the lawyer, he does not know “whether Partskhaladze has left or where he is,” but he agreed to continue the hearing without his presence.

According to Prosecutor Levan Vepkhvadze, the testimonies of witnesses and expert testimony confirm the factual circumstances of the use of detention against Vepkhvadze. Also, according to the prosecutor, there are threats of the accused absconding, committing new crimes and influencing witnesses. According to the state prosecutor, the use of bail as a preventive measure would not deter Partskhaladze.

The defense did not agree to the motion. The lawyers requested that Partskhaladze be released without a preventive measure.

According to lawyer Gagi Mosiashvili, there is no basis in nature for using detention against Otar Partskhaladze.

As Mosiashvili noted, there are only 3 witnesses in the 32-volume case and the content of their testimony is known to the court.

Otar Romanov Partskhaladzedoes not admit the charges.

For information, Otar Romanov Partskhaladze was charged in the murder case of businessman Levan Jangveladze. Specifically, he was charged under Article 25/109, Subsection “N” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which implies organizing premeditated murder by order and for profit.

The aforementioned crime provides for a sentence of 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
