As part of the fight against illegal migration, officers of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted special immigration control operations in Tbilisi and Batumi. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this in a statement.
According to the information released, as a result of the comprehensive operation, 31 foreign nationals were detained, including citizens of Turkey, Egypt, Azerbaijan, and Jordan.
“Based on obtained intelligence, department officers inspected specific locations as part of the operation, aiming to identify foreign nationals staying in Georgia without legal grounds.
It is noteworthy that, within the framework of comprehensive immigration control measures carried out in Batumi, 13 of the detained foreign nationals were wanted for various serious crimes, including murder, rape of a minor, and drug-related offenses. These individuals were wanted under Interpol Red Notices and at the national level by law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Turkey.
The Migration Department officers escorted these individuals to the Sarpi border crossing point, where they were handed over to representatives of the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Turkey for further legal action.
Currently, some of the detained individuals have been transferred to the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation center. Relevant procedures are underway to deport them from the country.
