Civil activist Tamar Mearakishvili detained in occupied Tskhinvali has been released

Civil activist Tamar Mearakishvili, who was detained in occupied Tskhinvali, has been released. This information was confirmed to InterpressNews by the State Security Service of Georgia.

According to the agency, Mearakishvili is currently in territory controlled by the central authorities of Georgia.

Prior to her release, reports had circulated that Mearakishvili had been transferred to a clinic. She began a hunger strike after her detention as a form of protest.

The activist was detained on December 23 on charges of espionage. The so-called court in occupied Tskhinvali had sentenced her to imprisonment.
