Eva Shashiashvili, who was detained in connection with the events that took place on October 4, left the Rustavi Women’s Penitentiary Facility a few minutes ago.
Her pretrial detention was replaced today with a non-custodial bail of 5,000 GEL.
“An injustice is happening. This should never have happened. None of us who are in prison are guilty - we are all victims of a Russian regime. I hope this will change. At first, they were telling me to admit to carrying weapons, taking money, and other nonsense, but they could not get that from me. I admitted to throwing one object. They wanted me to say there was violence, personal correspondence with Zodelava and Burchuladze, but that is complete nonsense. My child is having a very hard time without me. First of all, I am going to see my child and bring them home. Thank you to everyone. I wish health, strength, and hope to everyone who remains in prison,” Eva Shashiashvili said.
The prosecution applied to the court to replace her detention with bail, citing Shashiashvili’s health condition, which, according to documentation submitted by the defense, had further deteriorated while in custody. Additionally, the prosecution stated that her child’s health condition, as well as the fact that Shashiashvili admitted guilt and accepted the evidence without dispute, were also factors in the decision.
The court granted the prosecution’s motion.
Eva Shashiashvili attended the hearing remotely from the Rustavi Penitentiary Facility.
