Bacho Akhalaia’s wife, Ani Nadareishvili, has submitted a written statement to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, requesting an explanation as to why she is not being allowed to visit Akhalaia in her capacity as a lawyer.
Nadareishvili published the text of the statement addressed to Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze on Facebook. The statement notes that she is being denied the right to meet her husband as his lawyer. According to Nadareishvili, she has only been verbally informed that her “legal status is unclear.”
Ani Nadareishvili states that she is requesting a response from the Prosecutor’s Office specifying exactly which legal provision serves as the basis for restricting her right to practice her profession as a lawyer.
Along with the statement, Nadareishvili wrote on Facebook that “the Constitution, the law, and justice do not exist in Georgia.”
“I also state that the Constitution, the law, and justice do not exist in this country; power has been seized by a Russian regime. However, I am writing these letters to bodies serving the regime in order to exhaust domestic legal remedies, as required by international standards,” Nadareishvili wrote.
In addition to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, Nadareishvili is also requesting a response from the Georgian Bar Association and the Public Defender.
