We are closely monitoring the events ongoing in Venezuela, hoping that future processes will develop in accordance with the interests of the Venezuelan people, - reads a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
The ministry expresses the hope that the recent events in Venezuela will lead to the cancellation of the “recognition” of the occupied regions of Georgia by the Venezuelan authorities.
“Considering that the Venezuelan authorities, in gross violation of international law, recognized the occupied regions of Georgia, Abkhazia and the so-called South Ossetia, as independent states, we express the hope that the recent events will lead to the cancellation of this illegal decision, in accordance with the national interests of Georgia and international legal principles,” reads the statement.
