Today in Tbilisi, the traditional “Alilo” procession will take place; traffic will be restricted on certain streets of the capital

According to Tbilisi City Hall, due to the Christmas holiday, the traditional “Alilo” procession will be held today, which will result in traffic restrictions on several streets in the capital.

The procession will start at 2:00 PM from First Republic Square and will continue until 4:00 PM. During this time, vehicles will be able to move using alternative routes.

Access from Merab Kostava Street to Giorgi Akhvlediani and Leo Kiacheli Streets will be possible via Vashlovani and Ia Ekala­dze Streets. Vehicles traveling from Revaz Tabukashvili Street toward Merab Kostava Street will bypass First Republic Square and move only via Rustaveli Avenue.

From First Republic Square toward Freedom Square, vehicles will be able to travel using Giorgi Leonidze, Pavle Ingorokva, Alexander Chavchavadze, Griboedov, Nikoloz Baratashvili, and Revaz Tabukashvili Streets. Access from Petre Melikishvili Avenue to other Mtatsminda streets will be possible via Simon Janashia, Ivane Tarkhnishvili, Tamar Chovelidze, and Mikheil Zandukeli Streets, then through Vasil Barnov, Iakob Gogebashvili, Maro Makashvili, and Kakabadze Brothers Streets. In the reverse direction, drivers will be able to reach Melikishvili Avenue and the area near Rustaveli Metro Station via Griboedov, Maro Makashvili, Vasil Barnov, Mikheil Zandukeli, and Akaki Shanidze Streets.

Vehicles traveling from the area near Rustaveli Metro Station toward Freedom Square will be allowed to move along Rustaveli Avenue up to the intersection with Giorgi Chanturia Street, then continue via Chanturia Street and the right bank of the Mtkvari River.

From 3:00 PM, for approximately 30 minutes, traffic on Freedom Square will be completely restricted. During this period, movement will be allowed up to the ramp near Nikoloz Baratashvili Bridge and from Rustaveli Avenue up to Giorgi Chanturia Street. Traffic will also be restricted from Kote Abkhazi and Shalva Dadiani Streets toward Freedom Square.

During this time, traffic will be allowed only up to Giorgi Chanturia Street. Movement toward Rustaveli Avenue will be restricted on Lesia Ukrainka, Archil Jorjadze, Chichinadze, April 9, Anton Furtseladze, and Lado Gudiashvili Streets as well.

From Freedom Square, the procession will continue toward Holy Trinity (Sameba) Cathedral, during which traffic will be restricted in stages on Baratashvili Bridge, Nikoloz Baratashvili Ascent, and Avlabari Square.

When traffic is restricted on Baratashvili Street, vehicles heading toward Freedom Square will be able to use the right bank of the Mtkvari River and Kote Abkhazi Street, while traffic toward Avlabari will be possible via Dry Bridge, Kosta Khetagurov Street, and the left bank of the Mtkvari River.

When restrictions are in place at Avlabari Square, vehicles traveling from Queen Ketevan Avenue will continue via Bochorma and Yalbuzi Streets, as well as the left bank of the Mtkvari River. In the opposite direction, traffic will be possible via Baratashvili Bridge and the same route along the left bank of the river.

Public transport routes will also be temporarily changed. Specifically, during the procession from First Republic Square toward Rustaveli Avenue, public transport will move from Mikheil Javakhishvili Street toward the right bank of the Mtkvari River, from where it will connect to Baratashvili Street, the statement says.
