The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has responded to a statement by the family of Giga Avaliani. The agency has expressed its readiness to meet with the family members of Giga Avaliani and to explain in detail each investigative action, as well as the legal grounds for the classification of the actions of the detained individuals based on those investigative measures.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia responds to the statement of Giga Avaliani’s family and once again expresses its readiness to meet with the family members of Giga Avaliani at any time and to explain in detail each investigative action and the legal grounds for assigning legal qualifications to the actions of the individuals detained as a result of those actions. The Prosecutor’s Office also states that, should new evidence and legal grounds emerge, criminal prosecution against other individuals will be initiated.

Given the high level of public interest, we once again remind the public that in the criminal case under the jurisdiction of the Gldani-Nadzaladevi Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, four minors have been detained and charged. One of them has been charged under Part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (intentional grave bodily harm resulting in death), while three others have been charged under Part 1 of Article 376 (failure to report a crime by a person who reliably knows that a grave crime is being prepared or has been committed).

In addition, the investigation continues within the Ministry of Internal Affairs in a criminal case separated into a distinct proceeding,” the statement says.
