Gia Volski: No one should have the arrest of a person as a goal in itself, but we must reflect on who is responsible for this - on the evil prepared for Georgia and the scenario into which young people were drawn

The First Vice-Speaker of Parliament, Gia Volski, commented on the issue of possible pardons for those detained during protest rallies. He stressed that arrests should never be an end in themselves, especially when it comes to young people, but called for reflection on responsibility for the events.

“No one should have the arrest of a person as a goal in itself - especially not on a day like this, and especially not of young people. But we must think about who is responsible for this. We must reflect on the evil that was prepared for Georgia, on the scenario into which, unfortunately, young people in particular were drawn,” Volski said.

According to him, “no one takes responsibility upon themselves.”

“When you confront the state and the law, naturally the law will act. It is regrettable, but it is a reality characteristic of any democracy, whether it involves police forces or the courts.

We also see unfortunate facts and bad examples, where people are not only fined but may even end up in prison for expressing their opinions - and we are talking about developed European democracies. Therefore, in this difficult situation, everyone should reflect on what ensures the country’s stability, what mechanisms and financial or political resources exist to set a country against itself. Then it will become clear who is responsible for this,” Volski concluded.
