The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia states that the Ministry has not received any information regarding the detention of Georgian citizens who may have been part of the crew of the Marinera tanker.
According to them, the Ministry is carrying out relevant works to clarify the information disseminated in open sources regarding the presence of Georgian citizens among the crew of the Marinera tanker, which was detained by the United States in the Atlantic Ocean on January 7, 2026.

For information, according to information disseminated by Russian media, the captain of the Russian-flagged oil tanker detained by the US is a Georgian citizen. According to them, the crew of the oil tanker consists of 28 people, of which 20 are Ukrainian citizens. Six, including the captain, are Georgian citizens, and two are Russian citizens.
The US detained a Russian-flagged oil tanker linked to Venezuela in the Atlantic Ocean on January 7.
