Gia Volski - The Venice Commission has invaded the political field - many recommendations were not taken into account even during Saakashvili's time, but it has become a task for us that there should be a truncheon in the form of the Venice Commission and constantly confront the Georgian Dream

We are critical of the Venice Commission because it has invaded the political field, legal assessments have been completely forgotten - many of their recommendations were not taken into account even during Saakashvili's time, but for us it has become a certain strategic task that there should be a truncheon in the form of the Venice Commission and it should constantly confront the Georgian Dream government, - the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Gia Volski, told journalists, thus responding to the US decision to leave 66 organizations, including the Venice Commission.

According to him, Georgia has recently received a number of serious political blows from the Venice Commission.

"The Venice Commission was created as a club of experts that helps countries and gives advice on certain issues. Recently, Georgia has received a number of serious political blows from the Venice Commission, claiming that the demand for transparency or the ban on LGBT propaganda is wrong and that it allegedly leads to the development of an aggressive attitude towards people. There were also many other topics that were purely political and in no way legal. The US has its own vision in this regard. They do not want to participate in the manipulations that the Venice Commission has been accused of in recent times. Of course, we have other reasons, but in reality, we see what is happening. They are not talking about legally sound laws, but rather about the fact that a political party cannot be banned despite the fact that they have committed a crime and even contributed to the violation of territorial integrity. They know that a crime was committed, that torture was systemic, and that the Strasbourg Court made decisions on this, but still they say no, and that's it - it is not politically justified. They do not move on from this topic in any way. Of course, they should turn the political lever of a political organization into a political baton. Many of their recommendations were not taken into account during Saakashvili's time, but with us it has become a certain strategic task that there should be a baton in the form of the Venice Commission and it should constantly hit the Georgian Dream government," - said Volski.

For information, the United States of America is leaving 66 organizations, including the Venice Commission. "President Trump announced that the United States is leaving 66 anti-American, useless or wasteful international organizations," - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on the social network. According to Rubio, discussions are continuing regarding other international organizations.
