The Venice Commission has lost its function and has become a bureaucratic appendage of the Brussels bureaucracy - no analysis, direct attacks with a political baton on Georgia and making political statements without any analysis - this is the sign that characterizes the Venice Commission today, - said the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Gia Volski.
According to Volski, the new American administration is expressing pragmatic views towards the Venice Commission. According to him, the Commission also had serious claims regarding Georgia, however, when they delved deeper into the issue, they saw that "the Venice Commission has been formed as a baton towards a specific country, regarding which Marta Kos, Kaja Kallas and Yukneviçiene have their own political views".
“It became a servant, it became an organization with specific political goals, at one time it was a pretty good institution that provided professional advice to developing countries, etc. In relation to Georgia, this is an absolutely biased organization. Of course, we do not express any complaints against this organization for the same reason, but the fact is that the Venice Commission has lost its function and has turned into a bureaucratic appendage of the Brussels bureaucracy.
When we talk about the Venice Commission turning into some kind of political structure that helps the Brussels bureaucracy or is an appendage of it, in order to carry out a political attack, in this case, against Georgia, we mean what remarks we receive regarding various draft laws and subsequent laws that concerned transparency or the issue of banning LGBT propaganda or other issues. It is absolutely unthinkable that they make such intervention or conclusions regarding the law or position that implies the banning of parties, because they have never said anything, they have not analyzed the situation that this particular political force created when it was in power. This scale of human torture and human rights violations is unknown to this region and even to countries with authoritarian regimes. To come out and make your own conclusion without analyzing this is, of course, biased. You can analyze and say that yes, there were violations and agree with the Strasbourg Court's decision that the torture was systematic, but nevertheless, for this reason and therefore, you cannot talk about the abolition of political parties. This is not the case here, no analysis - directly attacking Georgia with a political baton and making political statements without any analysis, this is the sign that characterizes the Venice Commission today," said Gia Volski.
