In support of the founder of Batumelebi, Mzia Amaglobeli, and on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of her arrest, her colleagues and friends held a solidarity rally in front of Rustavi Women’s Penitentiary No 5.
They brought banners to the site: “Freedom to Mzia!”, “Fight before it’s too late.”
The participants of the demonstration used candles to paint the inscription "Freedom to Mzia" on the asphalt. In this way, they expressed solidarity with Mzia Amaglobeli and demanded her release from prison.
According to journalist Merab Metreveli, the imprisonment of Mzia Amaglobeli proves that this is not justice, but revenge by the government.
"Our main message is to encourage and stand in solidarity with Mzia. We once again protested her illegal imprisonment. Mzia's case and her imprisonment are one of the most shameful spots in the history of this government and will remain so. This government has many shameful deeds, but the most shameful deed that will be remembered is the illegal imprisonment of Mzia Amaglobeli. Her imprisonment proves that this is not justice, but revenge on freedom-loving people, revenge on those who are not conducive to establishing a dictatorship. This is a signal to people that if you do not obey the regime and express your protest, everyone can be punished in this way because there is no justice in this country, there is the regime's revenge," Merab Metreveli said.
