Citizens are holding a protest march demanding the release of Mzia Amaglobeli, the head of Batumelebi and Netgazeti.
The march started from the area adjacent to the Marjanishvili metro station. “Freedom to Mzia, freedom to the regime’s prisoners!” - the citizens are chanting.
The participants of the rally are heading towards the parliament, where the protest has been held continuously for more than a year.
Today marks exactly one year since the arrest of journalist Mzia Amaglobeli. On August 6, she was sentenced to 2 years in prison. In particular, she was convicted under Part 1 of Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which provides for resistance, threats or violence against a public order defender or other government representative. The punishment for this act is a fine, house arrest for up to 2 years, and imprisonment for a term of 2 to 6 years.
