Romeo Mikautadze’s guilt is confirmed by witness testimonies, as well as by obtained information and audit reports; in this case, the preconditions for a plea agreement are not present, said Irakli Marshania, the prosecutor in the case of Romeo Mikautadze, former Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, after today’s court hearing.
According to him, witnesses have been questioned who directly implicate Romeo Mikautadze in the commission of the crime.
“At the previous hearing, the prosecution completed the examination of written evidence. At today’s hearing, we presented disks containing information requested from various organizations and banks, as well as recordings obtained as a result of covert investigative actions and information requested from various technical devices. The prosecution intended to examine these disks; however, the defense recognized this evidence as undisputed.
Romeo Mikautadze’s guilt is confirmed by witness testimonies, as well as by the obtained information and audit reports.
More than 40 witnesses still remain to be examined, and several more pieces of evidence still need to be reviewed.
The defense has not recognized all evidence as undisputed; witnesses have been questioned who directly expose Romeo Mikautadze as having committed the crime.
With regard to a plea agreement, certain preconditions must exist: the defendant must admit guilt, the damage must be compensated, and the defendant must apply to the Prosecutor’s Office. In this case, none of these preconditions are present,” Irakli Marshania stated.
For reference, law enforcement officers arrested the former First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development on June 20. He has been charged under Article 332, Part 2, and Article 194, Part 3, subparagraph “g” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provide for a penalty of up to 12 years of imprisonment.
