“There is no turning back for the protests in Iran, and there is no turning back for U.S. President Trump, who raised the stakes very high by encouraging protesters each time and saying that help is on the way,” said analyst Lela Jejelava on PalitraNews’ program Political Space, commenting on the ongoing events in Iran.
According to Jejelava, very significant changes are beginning not only in the region but also globally, although the process could be prolonged.
“Larijani’s statement was very harsh when he directly called the protesters terrorists, which was practically a signal that the hunting season for them had been declared. There is no turning back for the protests, and there is no turning back for U.S. President Trump, who raised the stakes very high by encouraging protesters each time and saying that help is on the way. However, timing is very important—when this assistance reaches the Iranians matters a lot.
We also know that certain moves were made, including on the Iranians’ initiative, to try to establish negotiations. Today, from Trump’s statements, it has become clear that he is no longer going to any negotiations. Practically, if the conditions set by the United States for Iran had been met, everything would already be resolved. Therefore, naturally, this will be the decisive strike by the United States. There may be targeted strikes, there may be other types of military actions. Most likely, the United States already has a strategy developed. But the fact remains: we are facing very significant changes not only in the region but also globally.
I express cautious optimism that everything will end very well, but this could be a prolonged process and may create certain risks and complications in the region,” Jejelava said.
