The State Security Service (SSS) has launched an investigation into alleged acts of sabotage and unauthorized access to a computer system.
According to the SSS statement, the basis for launching the investigation was information received from the Administration of the Government of Georgia indicating that a suspected cyberattack and certain manipulations had been carried out on the administration’s website.
The State Security Service explained that, in order to prevent damage to state interests, media representatives as well as certain individuals were given preventive recommendations to refrain from disseminating information.
“The State Security Service has launched an investigation into alleged acts of sabotage and unauthorized access to a computer system.
The investigation was initiated on the basis of information received from the Administration of the Government of Georgia regarding a suspected cyberattack and certain manipulations carried out on the administration’s website. These actions were aimed at damaging Georgia’s state interests by spreading false information in the public space, including causing political and economic consequences harmful to the country.
Following the alleged criminal activity, coverage of the issue began across various media outlets and on social networks. The State Security Service responded immediately - preventively, in order to eliminate potential damage to state interests, media representatives and certain individuals were advised to refrain from spreading the information.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 318 and 284 of the Criminal Code of Georgia,” the SSS statement said.
