MIA - Migration Department and Border Police officers arrested 14 foreign citizens who stayed in Georgia without legal grounds

As a result of a complex operation, officers of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Border Police detained a total of 14 citizens of Bangladesh, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Morocco.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that the detained individuals were in the country without legal grounds, according t the Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons. They abused the terms provided for in the asylum procedure and had been in the country for years without legal grounds.

"The detainees did not take advantage of the deadlines set by the expulsion decision, which implies voluntary departure from the country, as a result of which the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs made a decision to detain the aforementioned persons.

In order to enforce the decision, the detainees are currently being held in the Migration Department's temporary accommodation center with a view to their subsequent return to their country of origin," reads the information.
