Guram Macharashvili: The opposition itself no longer believes in so-called alliances - even they admit there is no trust; where there is no trust, nothing will ever work - whether it’s eight, seven, or any other number, zero multiplied by anything is still zero

The opposition itself no longer believes in so-called alliances, and even [Zurab] Japaridze says there is no trust. Where there is no trust and no national goal, nothing will ever work - whether it is an “eight,” a “seven,” or any other number; zero multiplied by anything will still be zero, said Guram Macharashvili, an MP from “People’s Power,” while speaking to journalists about opposition unity.

According to him, neither an alliance nor a joint statement will ever succeed, because they are not aimed at the country’s well-being.

“[Zurab] Japaridze’s party and the ‘United National Movement’ have long ceased to be considered an opposition. These are forces that directly carry out orders from abroad. As for the so-called alliances - they themselves no longer believe in them; even Japaridze says there is no trust. Where there is no trust and no national objective, nothing will ever work. Neither an alliance nor a joint statement will ever work, because they are not oriented toward the country’s welfare or toward offering an alternative proposal, which an opposition should, in principle, present as better than what the government has.

Instead, they say that if the government does something good, it only seems that way to you, and that everything is bad until they come to power. And how do they want to come to power? Everyone knows very well - without elections. Whether it is eight, seven, or any other number, zero multiplied by anything will still be zero. If your task is zero, non-national, no matter how much you multiply it, it will remain zero,” Macharashvili said.

For reference, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change,” Zurab “Girchi” Japaridze, said while speaking on PalitraNews’ program Polit-City that there are discussions about opposition unity within civic circles and political groups. According to him, it will not be what people have heard before and will be much more than mere coordination.

Japaridze noted that some things are “broken” and that reunification will take time, with one of the main problems being the lack of trust.
