Following the release of Koba Khundadze, who is charged with laundering an especially large amount of illegal income, his brother Vladimir Khundadze, former Deputy Head of the Revenue Service, has been arrested.

The information was confirmed to InterpressNews by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to available information, Vladimir Khundadze voluntarily appeared before the investigative authorities.

As for Koba Khundadze, who had been detained on charges of laundering an especially large amount of illegal income and who, according to the State Security Service, is a person close to Grigol Liluashvili, he has been released from custody.

According to his lawyer, Malkhaz Lapachi, Khundadze left the penitentiary facility on Friday, January 16, after bail was imposed. The lawyer did not specify the grounds on which the strictest preventive measure - pretrial detention - was replaced with bail.

For reference, Koba Khundadze, a person linked to Grigol Liluashvili, was charged with laundering an especially large amount of illegal income, an offense punishable by 9 to 12 years in prison. During a search of the defendant’s residence, cash totaling USD 1,319,300 was seized, sorted into 94 envelopes.

Khundadze had been remanded in custody as a preventive measure.
