­Mikheil Kavelashvili pardoned 159 convicted persons on the occasion of the Epiphany. According to the information released by Kavelashvili's press service, the pardon is "based on the principle of humanism and state interest".

"The use of the exclusive powers granted to him by the Constitution is based on the principle of humanism and state interest," the press service said in a statement.
