A criminal offense was committed against me from the moment I was taken to prison. As far as I know, degrading treatment is punishable by 3 years in prison. Add to this sexual harassment, demanding to undress. At least five people were involved in this, including the prison director and deputy director. I am an innocent political prisoner. This is my torture. I have been waking up with a swollen face for two days, everything hurts, and [the prison director] tells me that I am putting on a show and nothing bothers me, - Nana Sander, a defendant in the October 4 protest case, stated at the court hearing.
In addition, she said that she stopped the hunger strike due to her health condition.
"As you know, I started a hunger strike during the previous so-called trial. Before I started this hunger strike, I said a few days before that if my demands due to my health condition were not met, I would start a hunger strike. You know that I started a hunger strike on January 13. I have no medical education, but I know that I was unwell, I could not leave the bathroom on my own. My sugar level was low, it was falling so quickly, the doctor on duty told me that I would end up in a coma. I did not fight to save my life and I really wanted to keep my word to the end, but I did not want to be in a coma either. Accordingly, on the fourth day, I stopped hunger strike.
When I returned to prison, the prison director, Nestan Verulashvili, as well as the administration staff, met me and the same terror began...
I am being beaten three times a day, my health has deteriorated even more. Of course, added to this is a dry hunger strike. I can’t even sleep at night, there’s not a single part of my body I can put my hand on that doesn’t hurt.
During my hunger strike, a doctor came, I was told he was the head doctor. He came and brought me the xerox copies I had requested earlier. I had requested this several times since the day I was brought to prison, and not even 20% of them have been recorded, what problems I have. Instead of having some responsibility imposed on the doctor, the prison director terrorized me. In general, many prisoners don’t have a bad attitude towards him, but a criminal offense was committed against me from the moment I was brought to prison. As far as I know, degrading treatment of human dignity is punishable by up to 3 years in prison. Add to this sexual harassment by demanding that I undress. At least five people were involved in this, including the prison director and his deputy. I don’t know, maybe he’s not a bad person, but towards me this is selective and inhuman.
I am an innocent political prisoner. These are neither Christian nor human values, I don't know what it says, this is my suffering and torture. I have been waking up with a swollen face for two days, everything hurts, I can't put my finger on my body, and people tell me, I am putting on a show and nothing bothers me. What a show, I didn't even tell my lawyers. I didn't think there was such inhuman treatment in prisons in Georgia," said Sander.
