Special Penitentiary Service echoes Nana Sander's statement, in which the defendant speaks about the inhumane treatment she suffered in the penitentiary institution

The Special Penitentiary Service echoes the statement of the accused Nana Sander, in which the accused speaks about the inhuman treatment she was subjected to in the penitentiary institution.

As the Penitentiary Service explains, upon admission to the detention facility, the accused and his/her personal belongings are carefully checked and a corresponding act is drawn up. The examination of the accused is carried out by an employee of the same sex of the detention facility. During a full personal examination, it is not permissible to completely undress the accused/convict.

The Special Penitentiary Service does not confirm the facts indicated in the statement of the accused Nana Sander and believes that there is an attempt to discredit and tarnish the reputation of the service.

"Despite the above, regarding the statement of the accused Nana Sander, an official inspection will be initiated by the authorized structural unit of the Special Penitentiary Service and all procedures provided for by the legislation of Georgia will be carried out. In case of confirmation of the fact of violation of the rights of the accused, appropriate liability measures will be applied.

The Special Penitentiary Service will inform both the accused and the public about the results of the official inspection," reads the statement.
