“We see what is happening in the European Union, in NATO, and in U.S.–Europe relations. Unfortunately, they cannot put things in order there, so who can have hope that Japaridze, Gvaramia, and Khazaradze will reconcile or come together on a single platform, when they have not been able to do anything so far,” said Guram Macharashvili, an MP from People’s Power, in response to a journalist’s question about the unification of the opposition.
According to him, the opposition’s agenda currently consists only of division, fragmentation, radicalism, darkness, and a bleak future, and naturally, unification around such things cannot take place.
“I don’t know who else believes that the ‘United National Movement’s’ branches will unite. We see what is happening in the EU, NATO, and U.S.–Europe relations. Unfortunately, they cannot sort things out there, so who can hope that Japaridze, Gvaramia, and Khazaradze will reconcile or stand on a single platform, when they have not been able to achieve anything so far. This unification will not happen because they have no national objective. That is where everything ends - when you have no national task and no goal other than coming to power, you cannot unite around anything. That is why even their voters do not support them. Division, fragmentation, radicalism, darkness, a bad future - all of this is on their agenda, and naturally, unification around all of this cannot take place.
As for [Salome] Zurabishvili, I welcome her leading this unification, because she is a formula for failure - and that is very good,” Guram Macharashvili said.
