Berdia Sichinava: The function of the “Middle Corridor” could be jeopardized or bypassed because a politically incompetent force is in power

“The function of the Middle Corridor could be called into question or even bypassed entirely because there is a force in power that is so politically inept that it has failed - or refuses - to coordinate anything with anyone,” said Berdia Sichinava, one of the leaders of Gakharia Georgia.

According to Sichinava, a country cannot perform any transit corridor function without stable relations with both the West and the East.

“For a state to establish the function of a transit corridor, there must simultaneously exist economic demand, geographical capabilities, and the political will and skills to organize all of this.

You cannot perform any transit corridor function if you do not have stable relations with both the West and the East. It is an oxymoron to insult the West (of which you are a historical, religious, and cultural part) and expect them to accept this transit via you, or to insult the East and hope they will pass this load through your country, and vice versa.

More or less, all governments, kings, prime ministers, and feudal lords, since the 2nd-1st centuries BCE when the Silk Road began operating, understood the importance of this function for their countries.

Now we see that the function of the Middle Corridor could be called into question or completely bypassed because a force in power is so politically incompetent that it has failed - or refuses - to coordinate anything with anyone.

They are now cut off from all international processes, isolated and alienated, insulting friends, pretending that nothing significant happens at the Davos Economic Forum or other important international platforms, and that their participation is merely formal, while deceiving the entire country,” Sichinava wrote on social media.
