Over the past 24 hours, as a result of police operations conducted by law enforcement officers in Tbilisi and regions, an unprecedented number of 88 drug dealers and individuals involved in drug crimes have been arrested, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze said at the briefing.
According to Darakhvelidze, a particularly large amount of various types of narcotic and psychotropic substances, firearms and automatic firearms, and money allegedly obtained from the illegal sale of drugs have been seized.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues its uncompromising fight to identify and bring to justice those involved in the drug trafficking scheme.
In the past 24 hours alone, as a result of police operations conducted by law enforcement officers in Tbilisi and regions, an unprecedented number of 88 drug dealers and individuals involved in drug trafficking have been arrested. A particularly large amount of various types of narcotic and psychotropic substances, firearms and automatic weapons, and money allegedly obtained from the illegal sale of drugs have been seized.
Among the detainees are both Georgian and foreign citizens.
According to evidence obtained as a result of intensive investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers, it is established that the arrested drug dealers were systematically selling narcotics to citizens.
Based on the judge’s ruling, as a result of controlled drug purchases, as well as searches of the defendants' personal belongings, vehicles, and homes at locations indicated by them, a particularly large amount of various types of narcotics, including "cocaine", "heroin", "alpha PVP", "buprenorphine", "methadone", "morphine", "MDMA" and dried "marijuana", were seized as evidence. As a result of investigative actions, materials necessary for packaging narcotics were also seized.
The investigation is underway under Articles 236, 260, 260 tertia, 260 quatra, 261 and 265 prima of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
