“I don’t think we should talk much about Giorgi Vashadze - politically nullified people shouldn’t get publicity,” said Guram Macharashvili, MP from People’s Power, to journalists.

According to him, “the mother party ‘United National Movement’ and its offshoot political figures - whether it’s Vashadze, Gvaramia, or anyone else - are absolutely nullified.”

“I don’t think we should talk much about Giorgi Vashadze. Politically nullified people shouldn’t get publicity. Why was he detained? All members of the commission were told that the law and the Constitution exist, and everyone must answer if they do not comply. Those who complied and appeared faced no legal consequences; those who did not faced the corresponding penalties. That is why these people are serving their sentences. Politically, the mother party ‘United National Movement’ and its offshoots - Gvaramia, Vashadze, or anyone else - are absolutely nullified. The global agenda has already changed, and the problem of these people, the UNM, and its branches is that they are always behind the times. They always lag behind societal demands and the global agenda. That happened again this time, and I am confident that healthy political forces will take their place, and this will inevitably happen,” Macharashvili stated.

Giorgi Vashadze was found guilty by the court on June 24, 2025, for failing to comply with the temporary parliamentary investigative commission’s request. Vashadze did not attend the court session; law enforcement officers went to the party office and placed handcuffs on the politician there. By the decision of Judge Nino Galustashvili, Vashadze was sentenced to 7 months of imprisonment and banned from holding public office for 2 years.
