70 doctors appeal to the Penitentiary Service regarding the health of imprisoned Anastasia Zinovkina and Nana Sander

Seventy doctors have submitted a request to the Penitentiary Service concerning the health of imprisoned Anastasia Zinovkina and Nana Sander. The appeal was submitted today to the agency by politician and doctor Ani Kavtaradze and doctor Giorgi Akhobadze.

According to the doctors, the health of Zinovkina and Sander is deteriorating daily. They are demanding immediate comprehensive medical examinations and the provision of appropriate treatment.

“The Special Penitentiary Service has ignored the severe health conditions of Anastasia Zinovkina and Nana Sander for months. Despite multiple official requests, the demands have not been fulfilled, there has been no written response, and their condition worsens daily.

Therefore, we, the doctors, in professional and ethical responsibility, demand that the regime ensure full medical examinations for prisoners Anastasia Zinovkina and Nana Sander without delay and provide the necessary treatment. This includes essential laboratory and radiological examinations. All necessary consultations with specialized medical professionals must be conducted to ensure an independent and objective medical assessment. Medical examinations and treatment should take place in an appropriate clinic in full compliance with international and national standards. Recommendations already issued by the doctors must be fully and continuously implemented, initiating the relevant treatment process and ensuring: necessary medication or other forms of therapy; continuity of treatment and effective medical monitoring; as well as prevention of further deterioration of health.

Caring for health is a fundamental human right. Ignoring a patient’s condition or providing inadequate medical care violates both medical ethics and humanitarian principles. In the 21st century, comprehensive diagnostics and treatment constitute a minimum human standard, the violation of which is unacceptable under any circumstances.”

The appeal is signed by 70 doctors.
