Migration Department officers arrest 38 foreign citizens in Tbilisi and Batumi

The Migration Department has detained 38 foreign nationals. According to the information released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the detained individuals were in the country in violation of the requirements established by Georgian law.

“Within the framework of the fight against illegal migration, employees of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted special immigration control measures in Tbilisi and Batumi. As a result of the complex measures, 38 foreign citizens were detained, including citizens of China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Turkey, Côte d’Ivoire, Sudan, Nigeria, Jordan and India.

Within the framework of the measures, employees of the department checked specific locations, which aimed to identify foreign citizens staying in Georgia without legal grounds. It was determined that the detained persons were in the country in violation of the requirements established by the Law of Georgia “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons”.

Currently, the detainees are placed in the temporary accommodation center of the Migration Department. Relevant procedures are underway to expel them from the country.

"The Migration Department is carrying out special immigration control in an intensive mode to ensure the timely identification and expulsion of foreign citizens who are in Georgia without legal grounds," reads the information.
