Marilena Raouna - The rule of law, democratic standards and respect for fundamental rights are the main prerequisites for progress on the enlargement agenda - we expect this from Georgia too

Enlargement is the main priority of the Cyprus Presidency. Right now is the momentum for enlargement, for the EU to fulfill its duty, - Marilena Raouna, Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Cyprus, the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, told Euroscope.

"The EU fulfills its duty when our partners fulfill their duty. The rule of law, democratic standards, respect for fundamental rights and freedoms are the main prerequisites for our partners to make progress on the enlargement agenda. This is what we expect in the case of Georgia as well. It is very important to preserve the European perspective of the neighboring country," - said Marilena Raouna.

Cyprus took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 January for 6 months.
