Marie Rambach: Our recommendation is that Georgia investigate cases of excessive use of force against demonstrators and ensure justice, compensation, and rehabilitation for the victims

Germany is deeply concerned about the rapid deterioration of human rights in Georgia, said Marie Rambach, Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations Office in Geneva, during the discussion of Georgia’s national report held within the framework of the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

“Our recommendation is that Georgia investigate cases of excessive use of force against demonstrators and ensure justice, compensation, and rehabilitation for the victims. We also recommend repealing the ‘Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence,’ the ‘Foreign Agents Registration Act,’ and the amendments to the ‘Law on Grants,’” Marie Rambach stated.

According to her, Georgia should also review the amendments made to the Law on Assemblies and Manifestations.

“Georgia should repeal or amend the changes introduced to the Law on Broadcasting and the Law on Freedom of Speech and Expression,” the German representative added.
