Guram Macharashvili: Zelenskyy didn’t like the truth we were telling, that’s why he recalled the ambassador - so what does appointing one now mean? As it seems, they expected to open a second front and when that failed, a policy of reset began

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should have appointed an ambassador to Georgia earlier - it appears there was an expectation that a second front could be opened in Georgia, and when that did not happen, a policy of reset began, said MP Guram Macharashvili of the People’s Power party in comments to journalists, responding to the appointment of Ukraine’s new ambassador to Georgia.

According to him, Georgia remains committed to a framework of partnership and friendship.

“Nothing has changed on our side. Georgia’s position on the war, peace, and partnership is exactly the same as it was. And why was the ambassador recalled from Georgia in the first place? Our ambassador was among the last to leave Kyiv; he was working under bombardment, and their response to that was to recall the ambassador?! Apparently, they expected to be able to open a second front in Georgia, and when they failed to do so, a policy of reset began. Fine, we remain in a partnership and friendship format. We said this before as well. This was precisely the policy of People’s Power - to preserve peace for Georgia, which is why we chose a policy of telling the truth. Apparently, Zelenskyy did not like the truth we were telling, and that is why he recalled the ambassador. So what does appointing an ambassador now mean? It means he appointed an ambassador - something he should have done earlier,” Macharashvili said.

For reference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Mykhailo Brodovych as Ukraine’s ambassador to Georgia. According to Ukrainian media, Brodovych has been working in Ukraine’s diplomatic service since 1996 and served as Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Slovenia from 2015 to 2022.
