It appears that today Maia Sandu is the loud voice tasked with making damaging comments about Georgia. As an ordinary citizen, I would like to see certain steps taken, even at a minimal level - such as summoning the ambassador, said Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee, in response to a statement by Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
According to him, Georgian Dream calls on everyone to stop manipulating the issue of Georgia.
“I cannot tell you why an official from a CIS member state allows herself to criticize the foreign policy of another country, Georgia. Perhaps she has finished abolishing her own country and can now comment on other issues as well. At the same time, if we take into account the history and the statements she has made about Georgia, everything becomes clear. The public clearly remembers how, on October 4, she supported the violent overthrow of the government through her statements. So everything is obvious - this seems to be a continuation of a broader process. Today, she is that person, that loud voice, who is meant to make damaging comments about Georgia, regardless of the fact that, neither officially, professionally, nationally, nor in any other sense, does she have anything to do with Georgia’s internal affairs.
We have seen many politicians juggle the issue of Georgia. They often use Georgia for domestic purposes, including to justify their own failures. This may be part of that as well. We have heard even worse statements. It seems she is ready to sign off on the abolition of her own country if the need arises. That is not our issue. We simply call on everyone to stop manipulating the issue of Georgia,” Makhashvili said.
For reference, Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated during her address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that “Russia has brought Georgia back into its orbit.”
“I regret that Georgia, despite the courage of the Georgian people who continue to defend democratic values, European aspirations, and the right to determine their own future, has been brought back into Russia’s orbit. Russia returned Georgia to its orbit by using the fear of war as a weapon and through messages suggesting that making the wrong choice in elections would come at the cost of peace,” Sandu said.
