The Chairman of the Chokhatauri City Council, Davit Sharashidze, has been arrested on charges of group violence against a police officer.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, yesterday, in a restaurant in Ozurgeti, due to a dispute, the Chairman of the Chokhatauri City Council and two citizens with him assaulted a police officer who was not performing his official duties at the time.
In particular, according to the agency, they physically assaulted the law enforcement officer, as a result of which the police officer received injuries to the face and various parts of the body.
“Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have detained the Chairman of the Chokhatauri City Council, Davit Sharashidze, on charges of gang violence against a police officer. Two more persons are absconding and active operational-search work is underway to detain them.
The investigation has established that on January 27 of this year, in a restaurant located in Ozurgeti, due to a mutual dispute, the Chairman of the Chokhatauri City Council and two citizens who were with him assaulted a police officer who was not performing his official duties at the time. In particular, they physically assaulted the police officer, as a result of which the police officer received injuries to the face and various parts of the body.
Law enforcement officers have detained the Chairman of the Chokhatauri City Council, Davit Sharashidze, who participated in the gang violence. Sharashidze was arrested shortly after the incident, while two individuals are in hiding - operational and search measures are being actively conducted to arrest them.
The investigation is underway under Subparagraph “b” of Part One of Article 126 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Until the completion of then investigation, the injured police officer involved in the incident has been dismissed from his position and transferred to the disposal of the MIA personnel,” reads the information.
