Levan Makhashvili - It's a good thing that the hearing on Georgia in the Helsinki Commission has been postponed - I hope it won't take place at all

It is very good that the hearing on Georgia in the Helsinki Commission has been postponed - I hope such hearings will not take place at all, - Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament's European Integration Committee, told journalists.

According to him, by postponing the hearing, Georgia neither lost anything nor gained anything.

"I can't tell you what the real reason [for the postponement] is, but it's a fact that nothing was lost or added to the state. On the contrary, I would rather say that it's very good that it was postponed, whatever the reason. We always say that such hearings do not really contribute to the reset of bilateral relations. Our society has listened to the previous speeches, they heard lies and disinformation, blaming, and attaching a thousand labels to the country. Of course, this will not contribute to the reset of relations. We are glad, for whatever reason the hearing was postponed. Hopefully, such hearings will not take place at all," Makhashvili said.

The Helsinki Commission’s briefing on the situation in Georgia has been postponed due to weather conditions.

“The briefing has been postponed due to weather conditions,” reads the statement.

For information, a briefing on the situation in Georgia was scheduled for January 28 at the Helsinki Commission. The briefing, titled “Georgian Dream’s Growing Suppression of Dissent,” was announced for January 28 at 11:00 p.m. Tbilisi time.
