Giorgi Baramidze ahead of the meeting with the U.S. congressional delegation: Georgia has completely broken away from the Western orbit and is moving toward the status of a Russian province - naturally, our friends want information from us

“Georgia has completely broken away from the Western orbit and is heading toward the status of a Russian province. Naturally, our friends are interested in the situation and in receiving information from us,” said Giorgi Baramidze, political secretary of the United National Movement, ahead of a meeting with representatives of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee.

According to Baramidze, the meeting will focus on security issues, political prisoners, and other important and pressing matters.

In comments to the media, Baramidze also addressed the new legislative changes announced by Georgian Dream, stating that the authorities are adopting “laws worse than Putin’s, which means they are very afraid and therefore are maximally restricting human rights.”

“Unfortunately, the situation in our country is extremely grave. Yesterday we learned that this Russian gang of traitors and criminals intends to further restrict human rights in the country. They have surpassed Russia - perhaps only Turkmenistan or similar states have such legislation. This situation naturally concerns Georgian society and Georgia’s friends, whether European or American.

Of course, we will discuss security issues, political prisoners, and other important topics. Georgia has completely broken away from the Western orbit and is moving toward the status of a Russian province. This is the reality the country faces, and naturally, our friends want to understand the situation and receive information from us.

This draconian, unconstitutional law will, of course, be challenged. Political parties and civil society will certainly fight against such illegal, unconstitutional legislation using lawful and constitutional methods,” Baramidze said.
