Archil Gorduladze: A business legal entity should remain a business, while politics should be left to political parties

Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, stated that foreign money should not circulate in politics.

He made the remarks in connection with planned amendments to Georgia’s “Law on Grants,” under which foreign lobbying becomes punishable under criminal law.

Gorduladze emphasized:

“A business legal entity must perform its appropriate functions, while politics should be conducted by political parties, as prescribed by the Constitution of Georgia. Foreign money should not flow into politics, and when the responsibility for protecting sovereignty rests with the Government of Georgia, it must also have the ability to enforce effective mechanisms and accountability.

If a legal entity engages in political activity, its actions aimed at shaping public opinion, unrelated to its usual business, will incur administrative fines. As for individual entrepreneurs, these proposed amendments do not apply at all.”
