“Even if you look at South African countries, any university reorganization - especially a merger - is always decided together with governing councils. What raises uncertainty is this: if everything remains unchanged, what is the purpose of the merger?” – said Ilia State University professor and lecturer Nino Dobordjginidze while speaking about the merger of Tbilisi State University and the Georgian Technical University.
According to her, a great deal of confusion and chaos has been created among students regarding how authorization and accreditation issues will be handled.
“In any country, including South African countries, any university reorganization - particularly a merger - is always decided in consultation with governing councils. These include the academic and representative councils, as well as faculty councils. As far as I know, in none of these bodies has there been any discussion of this issue. At Ilia State University, this is strictly regulated. According to our regulations, permission for reorganization must necessarily be granted by the governing councils - in our case, the academic representative council and the faculty councils. There is a great deal of confusion and chaos among students about how authorization and accreditation issues will be handled, since the university that would be established would be a new university,” Nino Dobordjginidze stated.
