Lawyer says former chairman of Chokhatauri City Council, who was arrested for violence against a police officer, admits to the crime

According to the lawyer of Davit Sharashidze, the former chairman of the Chokhatauri City Council, who was arrested on charges of group violence against a police officer, Sharashidze has admitted his guilt.

When asked why he beat the police officer, the lawyer replied: “To be honest, he was trying to defuse a conflict.”

“The defense [at today’s trial] is requesting bail. I have to agree on the amount with the family and the accused. He admits [to the crime] and is cooperating. The case materials were handed over to me yesterday, but I have not read them,” the lawyer told TV Pirveli.

As a reminder, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in a restaurant in Ozurgeti, due to a dispute, the chairman of the Chokhatauri City Council and two citizens who were with him abused a police officer who was not performing his official duties at that time.

In particular, according to the agency, they physically assaulted the law enforcement officer, as a result of which the police officer received injuries to the face and various parts of the body.
