Gedevan Popkhadze - The de facto government no longer recognizes the legal framework, is behaving absolutely unbridled, very cynical, disgustingly, and they will get an appropriate legal assessment

I am sure that the OSCE assessments will be objective and they will use the assessments as a basis for other organizations - said Gedevan Popkhadze, a member of the Coalition for Change, responding to the OSCE's decision to activate the "Moscow Mechanism".

Gedevan Popkhadze stated on Palitranews that the activation of the "Moscow Mechanism" will have consequences.

"The OSCE never acts with rigid steps. We should not expect that a rally was quelled yesterday and sanctions will be imposed tomorrow. I exclude the possibility that this is a one-time act of one specific international organization, this actually creates a space of opportunities for us. The de facto government no longer recognizes legal frameworks, it behaves absolutely unbridled, very cynical and disgusting. Human rights are actually trampled in this country, but international mechanisms that will counteract this need to be activated, appropriate steps need to be taken. This step [the activation of the "Moscow Mechanism"] can be considered a space of such opportunities. I am sure that the OSCE assessments will be objective and they will use the assessments as a basis for other organizations, many will benefit from the assessments. I believe that the results will follow very quickly, it is just that the other side should also understand this - the side for which the relevant legal assessment is being prepared. I doubt they understand anything because the system there is very closed,” said Gedevan Popkhadze.

For information, 24 OSCE member states are creating an expert mission due to the deterioration of the human rights situation in Georgia. The statement notes that the 24 countries have activated the OSCE’s “Moscow Mechanism” to create an expert mission due to the deterioration of the human rights situation in Georgia. They also call on Georgia to cooperate and facilitate the work of the mission.
