Legislative changes concerning planned updates in schools have been initiated in Parliament. The draft amendments to the “Law on General Education”, prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science, are being considered by Parliament under an accelerated procedure.
According to the draft submitted to Parliament:
Full general education in Georgia will last no less than 11 years and no more than 12 years.
The starting age for primary general education will be 6 years old, which a child must reach by September 15.
Wearing a school uniform will be mandatory at the primary level.
If a teacher or another staff member of a general education institution loses their employment due to violence against a student, they will be barred from employment in general education institutions for 3 years.
Additionally, the law will include a provision regulating measures related to changes in the duration of the basic and secondary levels of general education.
