Some TSU professors released a statement

A group of professors from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) has released a statement.

Out of 62 professors who participated in a survey, none agreed with the idea of merging TSU with the Georgian Technical University. They demand that any changes to the university’s status and structure be halted, and that consultations with the academic community begin.

Interpressnews presents the full open letter from the professors of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at TSU as follows:

"As you know, Tbilisi State University is not just an educational institution; it is part of our national identity - Georgia’s history, past, present, and future. It is a place that has shaped the professional and personal futures of hundreds of thousands of people, and where the modern Georgian nation was formed.

With this letter, we reaffirm that TSU is not simply an institution whose future should be considered only in procedural or legal terms.

Accordingly, we demand the following from the decision-makers:

  1. Halt any rushed, fundamental changes related to the university’s status and structure that define its present and future.

  2. Initiate broad, public, and well-argued consultations with the academic community".
