Eka Sepashvili - The goal of the amendments is to close the black holes that NGOs and their patrons have discovered - one of the reasons was Marta Kos's shameless statement - repression will be carried out only against such forces

The goal of the legislative amendments regarding grants is to close the black holes discovered by NGOs and their patrons from abroad, so that illegal money does not enter Georgia and, most importantly, that this illegal money does not finance illegal activities, - Eka Sepashvili, a member of parliament from the People's Power party, told journalists about the planned amendments to the Grants Law.

According to her, they were prompted to make amendments to this law by Marta Kos' statement.

"The primary goal of the legislative amendments regarding grants is to close the black holes that NGOs and their patrons from abroad have discovered, so that illegal money does not enter Georgia and, most importantly, that this illegal money does not finance illegal activities. Especially those that threaten the constitutional order of the state and aim to organize a coup d'état. We were prompted to amend this law, and to some extent, one of the reasons was the statement of Marta Kos, who completely shamelessly stated from the high rostrum of the European Union that they are looking for ways to circumvent Georgian legislation. Also, a few months ago, a journalistic investigation established that $17 million had entered Georgia through various means to organize such a disorder. It goes without saying that the state, first and foremost, must protect the security of the country, the peace of the population, their health, and their lives. This is exactly what it is aimed at. The only repressions will be carried out against the forces that intend to change the state system by violent methods with money illegally transferred from abroad. In other cases, ordinary non-governmental organizations or other entities continue to work as usual and new legislative changes are not an obstacle for them.

As for international criticism, in response I can state that it seems that these are the very people who serve those global forces that want to transfer money to Georgia to finance illegal activities. They are voicing the very order and are working for the purpose of managing to bring illegitimate money into Georgia for illegitimate activities. These are ordinary political statements aimed at exerting international pressure on Georgia. They have nothing to do with reality and are part of a global policy that is defined and developed to put pressure on Georgia," said Eka Sepashvili.

For information, amendments are planned to the Law on Grants, according to which the definition of a "grant" is expanded and it is determined that a grant is also considered to be funds transferred by any person to any person in cash or in kind, which are used or may be used with the belief or intention of exerting any influence on the Georgian government, state institutions, or any part of society, for activities carried out or to be carried out, which are aimed at forming, implementing or changing the domestic or foreign policy of Georgia, as well as for activities that are used or may be used for activities that stem from the political or public interests, approaches or relations of a foreign government or a foreign political party. A person will be able to receive such a grant only with the prior permission of the Government of Georgia.

As the Georgian Dream faction explains, an organization registered abroad that essentially carries out its activities in Georgia will have to apply to the Georgian government for funding. Otherwise, it will be held criminally liable.
