Irakli Kirtskhalia - It is worrying that the crime rate has increased in Sweden, we are concerned about the economic stagnation in your country, as well as the fact that your citizens have to wait a long time for treatment

Given that human rights in Georgia are better protected today than in most of the countries that initiated the activation of the Russian Moscow Mechanism, we emphatically declare that we have nothing to hide from anyone, therefore, let the OSCE representatives come and investigate whatever they want and for as long as they want - the leader of the parliamentary majority, Irakli Kirtskhalia, said in his speech at the plenary session of the Parliament.

In addition, as he noted, the concerns of representatives of foreign countries, “which are based on biased information, are absolutely pointless and irrelevant.”

“I would like to respond to another clear example of foreign interference in Georgia’s internal affairs. As you know, a few days ago, Sweden expressed concern about the ongoing processes in Georgia and was one of the 24 countries that supported the activation of the Russian Moscow Mechanism regarding alleged human rights violations in Georgia. The ruling team has a clear position on this issue - unfortunately, over the past few years, we have repeatedly seen that specific institutions and organizations that should actually be aimed at cooperation are being used as a mechanism to punish unwanted political opponents. Nevertheless, given that human rights are better protected in Georgia today than in most of the countries that initiated the activation of the Russian Moscow Mechanism, we emphatically state that we have nothing to hide from anyone, therefore, let the OSCE representatives come and investigate whatever they want and for as long as they want.

Apart from this mechanism and, as we read in the media, the Swedish Moderate Youth Party awarded this year's Freedom Prize to all demonstrators in Georgia. The fact that you award the prize to all demonstrators, including violent radicals, is a confirmation of your bias towards the violent and, most importantly, another rude and unfriendly act of interference in Georgian politics. I would like to take this opportunity to address the Swedish side - of course, in general, we are grateful for your attention to Georgia, but we assure you that your concerns, which are based on biased information, are absolutely pointless and irrelevant. Accordingly, any process that may cause you concern is solely an expression of our sovereignty and the rule of law. On the other hand, Georgia, as your partner, friendly state and its ruling team, has real cause for concern regarding the processes taking place in your country.

Could you please help us and explain to us whether, like you, we are also misled or whether your country really has the problems and challenges that are being talked about so loudly? For example, we are concerned that discriminatory and hate crimes have increased extremely recently in Sweden. We are concerned that the risk level of organized crime has increased in the large cities of your country and that the crime rate in Sweden in general has increased. We are concerned that gang shootings and explosions in Sweden have steadily increased over the past few years. We are concerned about the economic stagnation in your country and the fact that the Swedish economy is facing difficulties due to high inflation, weak domestic demand and household debt. It is also a worrying fact that, unfortunately, your citizens have to wait a long time for treatment.

Unlike you, the concerns we have expressed are based on facts, statistics and objective data. Taking all this into account, I sincerely urge you not to waste your time worrying about non-existent problems in Georgia and to focus on solving the serious and objectively worrying challenges that your state is facing today.

Finally, I would also like to note that we will definitely continue monitoring and will definitely express our growing concern in the future, not only regarding anti-democratic processes in Sweden,” Kirtskhalia said.
