Jaba Samushia after meeting at Ministry of Education - There were acute questions - dialogue needs to continue

The meeting between the Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Zviad Gabisonia, and representatives of Tbilisi State University has ended.

After the meeting, which lasted 3.5 hours, TSU Rector Jaba Samushia stated that the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Education was long and tense. According to him, during the meeting, acute questions were raised regarding the possible merger of the two higher education institutions.

According to the Rector, a joint meeting with the Minister of Education is planned for Friday, February 6, in which representatives of both Tbilisi State University and Technical University will participate.

“The meeting with the Deputy Minister of Education lasted approximately 3 and a half hours. Of course, there were acute questions, the issue of merging the two universities was raised. I would divide the meeting into two parts. We agreed that the meetings will continue with regard to the second part. The questions were related to technical issues, and the second - political issues, to which the Minister will give an answer. We decided that on Friday, GTU and TSU will meet together with the Minister of Education, Mr. Givi Mikanadze. We will discuss this decision at the meeting.

The topic is quite acute, important, both for the Technical University and the State University. I think that the dialogue needs to continue,” said Jaba Samushia.
