Gia Volski: We expect a reset in relations with the U.S., and there is a basis for it; this is not just talk

“We expect a reset in relations with the United States, and there is a basis for this - this is not just said in the air. There are many issues where the approaches of Georgia and the new U.S. administration not only align but are precisely mirrored,” stated Gia Volski, First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, commenting on the meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Brendan Hanrahan.

According to him, there is a chance that “our strategic visions will translate into concrete actions that define a strategic partnership.”

“Of course, we expect a reset in relations with the United States, and there is a basis for this. This is not just rhetoric. There are many issues where the approaches of Georgia and the new U.S. administration not only coincide but are mirrored in detail. Naturally, the Deputy Foreign Minister discussed these matters. There are other ongoing global developments, quite serious issues that the U.S. is engaged with, and it is of exceptional importance to Georgia how these global processes evolve. Our relations need to be discussed within this context. We have a chance for our strategic visions to be translated into concrete actions that define a strategic partnership,” Volski said.

For reference, the meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Brendan Hanrahan was held at the U.S. State Department. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the parties discussed key issues regarding bilateral relations during the meeting.
