Prosecutor’s Office confirms investigation into large-scale misappropriation at electric rolling stock repair plant; searches conducted

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia confirmed that an investigation is underway into the alleged large-scale misappropriation and embezzlement of funds by officials at the Tbilisi branch of the Electric Rolling Stock Repair Plant, who are accused of abusing their official positions.

According to the office, as part of the investigation and under a court order, searches were conducted at several addresses on February 3.

The investigation was initiated based on a letter and inspection materials submitted by the Internal Audit and Monitoring Department of the Tbilisi City Hall, which raised concerns about potential criminal activity.

“The Department for Combating Corruption Crimes of the Prosecutor General’s Office is investigating the unlawful misappropriation and embezzlement of large sums of money by officials of the Tbilisi branch of the Electric Rolling Stock Repair Plant, committed through abuse of official position, as defined under Article 182, Part 2(d) and Part 3(b) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The investigation was initiated based on materials received from the Internal Audit and Monitoring Department of the Tbilisi City Hall regarding possible criminal activity.

Under a court order, investigative actions, including searches at multiple addresses, were carried out on February 3.
