Tbilisi City Hall has commented on the ongoing investigation into the alleged large-scale embezzlement of funds by responsible persons at the Wagon Repair Plant.
According to City Hall, the Municipal Internal Audit and Monitoring Service, within the framework of a compliance audit, examined expenditures incurred for the maintenance and servicing - both internal and external - of motor vehicles and special equipment (including metro railcars) recorded on the balance sheet of LLC “Tbilisi Transport Company.” The audit covered the period 2023-2024.
In addition, as part of the audit, the service reviewed a contract concluded between LLC “Tbilisi Transport Company” and JSC “Electric Rolling Stock Repair Plant, Tbilisi Branch” for the modernization of 12 metro railcars.
“During the review of the materials, questions arose that require answers; therefore, the materials were forwarded to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Georgia for further response,” Tbilisi City Hall told InterpressNews.
As a reminder, an investigation is underway into the unlawful misappropriation and embezzlement of a large sum of money by responsible officials of the Tbilisi branch of the Electric Rolling Stock Repair Plant, using their official position. This information was released by the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, within the framework of the investigation, search operations were conducted at several locations on February 3, based on a court warrant.
They also note that the basis for launching the investigation was a letter and inspection materials submitted by the Internal Audit and Monitoring Municipal Service of Tbilisi City Hall regarding a possible crime.
