Lawyer says new charges have been filed against Anton Chechin, Artem Gribul and Sergey Kukharchuk

According to the lawyer, Anton Chechin, Artem Gribul and Sergey Kukharchuk have been charged with new crimes.

As Mariam Jikia, the lawyer of Russian citizen Anton Chechin, told InterpressNews, the prosecutor's office is accusing them of playing cards in prison.

Russian citizen Anton Chechin, who is accused of drug trafficking, has been sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison. The defendant himself considers himself innocent.

For information, Anton Chechin was arrested on December 3, 2024. He is charged under Part 6 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code, which refers to the purchase, storage, and possession of a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs and provides for a sentence of 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment.

As for Anton Gribul, officers of the Central Criminal Police arrested the husband and wife, Anastasia Zinovkina and Artem Gribul, in Tbilisi on December 17, 2024. According to the prosecutor's office, during a search of the defendants' residence and personal belongings, 16 grams of the narcotic substance were seized. Anastasia Zinovkina and Artem Gribul were charged under Part 6 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code, which refers to the purchase, storage, and possession of narcotic drugs in a particularly large amount and provides for a sentence of 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment. By the decision of Judge Nino Galustashvili, they were sentenced to 8.5-8.5 years.

Sergey Kukharchuk, who was detained during the protests, was sentenced to 2 years in prison. He is among 11 people detained during the protests. The 11 arrested individuals were charged under Part 2 of Article 225 of the Criminal Code, which includes participation in organized group violence, which is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 4 to 6 years. Judge Galustashvili later reclassified the charges to Article 226 of the Criminal Code, which includes active participation in group action that has violated public order.
